Earthcars.com has developed a four-globe rating system to evaluate the environmental friendliness of each qualifying vehicle. Not only do we consider factors such as fuel economy, pollution emissions and powertrain type, but we also analyze each manufacturer in order to determine its “go-green” commitment as a company.
Earthcars heavily considers fuel efficiency or electric vehicle range when awarding ratings. At the minimum, each vehicle must achieve 35 highway miles-per-gallon or 32 combined mpg, unless an advanced non-hydrocarbon or hybrid powertrain is employed. Of course, models that achieve the highest fuel efficiency or range score the best.
The exhaust that a vehicle leaves behind poses dangerous health and environmental hazards. Earthcars considers the emissions ratings of each vehicle and awards points for those that run the cleanest. Ratings increase when Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV) or cleaner standards are achieved.
Advanced propulsion systems that replace gasoline with other energy sources rate high in our system. Earthcars promotes new clean technology and recognizes solutions that help save fuel and the environment.
Car companies, whether large or small, are rewarded for their commitments to preserving our environment and providing clean transportation. Earthcars analyzes all of the manufacturers and determines a Green Factor for each.
Remove roof racks when not in use, as the resulting increase in vehicle drag reduces fuel efficiency.
